Our Services

 Preventative Health Care
Dupont Veterinary Clinic stresses the importance of annual wellness exams for your pet/s.  We perform a thorough comprehensive physical exam from head to toe on your dog or cat.  This exam includes checking the ears, eyes, teeth, oral cavity, thyroid, lymph nodes, abdominal organs, heart, lungs, and skin among other things.  Because not all diseases are detectable on a physical exam, DVC also encourages annual blood wellness screens for your dog or cat over three years of age.  A wellness screen includes a CBC (Complete Blood Count) and a chemistry profile.  A thyroid test and a urinalysis are also evaluated on senior dogs and cats (usually over the age of seven).  Wellness screens allow many diseases to be detected early thereby enabling us much better success in controlling symptoms and extending the quality of life for your pet.  In addition to comprehensive physical exams and wellness screens, the following are some of the important health considerations that may be appropriate for your pet.

Deb• Intestinal Parasite Screen (Fecal Exam)
• Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency  Virus  Test
• Heartworm Test
• Heartworm Prevention
• Flea and Tick Prevention
• Vaccinations

Vaccinations
Vaccinations have been and remain an integral part of your pet’s health care.  Vaccine recommendations are tailored to your pet’s lifestyle and risk.  Rabies vaccination is required by law in both the state of Indiana as well as the City of Fort Wayne.

Outpatient Appointments
Dupont Veterinary Clinic provides 20 minute appointment times for all of our scheduled appointments.  While many clinics may offer 10 to 15 minute appointments, we believe the added time allows us to be more thorough in our examinations as well as allowing us time to discuss health care considerations and answer your questions.  Client education and informed decisions are a priority to us.  Please call ahead for an appointment time so that we may better serve you.

Anesthetic and Surgical Safety
Dupont Veterinary Clinic takes the safety of your pet during surgery very seriously.  We know your pet is like one of the family and, as such, we do a number of things to ensure a safe outcome.  We first perform pre-anesthetic blood testing on all animals prior to surgery.  This allows us to evaluate things such as liver and kidney function to be sure your pet is a good candidate for surgery.  Secondly, we encourage coagulation screens (bleeding and clotting screens) to rule out bleeding problems caused by hemophilia and platelet problems.  Thirdly, only the safest anesthetic agents are used.  Many of the anesthetics we use are the same drugs used in human hospitals.  During your pet’s procedure, your four-legged friend will be monitored by equipment that evaluates blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, body temperature and respirations.  Lastly, Dupont Veterinary Clinic has experienced doctors and staff that will treat your pet like one of our own.

We are here to discuss options for your pet as well as answer any questions you may have.  We promise to treat your pet like one of our own.  We offer pre-anesthetic blood testing, careful anesthetic monitoring, experienced staff and surgeons and a caring, compassionate environment.   We encourage pain control measures when appropriate.  We can also help with referrals to specialists when necessary.

X-Rays
We offer in-house radiography services with modern equipment and automatic processing to give you immediate, accurate results.

On-Site Laboratory
Dupont Veterinary Clinic has blood analyzing equipment allowing us to give you quick response time if your pet is sick.  We routinely perform Complete Blood Counts that evaluate white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets.  We also perform chemistry profile testing.  These tests allow us to evaluate such things as liver and kidney health, glucose, electrolytes, protein levels etc.

Intestinal Parasite Screening (Fecal Analysis)
Of great importance to the health of your dog or cat is the presence of any worms or other intestinal parasites.  Of even greater concern is the possibility of certain parasites being transferred to people.  Roundworms offer the greatest threat, especially to young children.  The Center for Disease Control estimates about 700 cases of Ocular Larval Migrans.  This condition is caused by a larval stage of the roundworm migrating to the eye resulting in partial or full vision loss in an eye.  The best prevention in both dogs and cats is annual intestinal parasite testing as well as monthly de-worming with a product that is designed to prevent both heartworms and intestinal parasites.

At DVC, we use the most accurate method of parasite screening – Centrifugation with Sheather’s Sugar Solution.  This technique is slightly more tedious and time consuming but improves the level of accuracy to protect you and your pet.

Pharmacy
We must legally have a current (within the last 12 months) client, patient, and doctor relationship in order to prescribe medications.  In most circumstances, a new health problem will require your pet to be examined, diagnosed and the appropriate medication will then be dispensed.  Refills will be granted if the doctor deems continuation of a medication is in the best interest of your pet.  You can call after hours and leave a message on our medication refill line and we will have it ready for pick-up the next day after 12:00 noon.

Retail
We carry a wide variety of products including Hill’s Prescription Diet, Waltham/Royal Canin, IVD, Purina CNM, CET Dental products, Frontline, Advantage, Advantix, Heartguard, Interceptor, Sentinel, collars and leashes.
