Endoscopy                                                     OUR TEAM - DR. RIETDORF.jpg

Endoscopy allows a non-invasive visual examination of internal organs and body parts without needing exploratory surgery.  It enters the body and can be manipulated via control knobs located on a hand piece.  A special video camera attached to the instrument allows us to view the exam on a monitor and also allows us to obtain pictures.

Upper GI Endoscopy is an exam of the esophagus, stomach and upper intestines.  A colonoscopy exists of an exam of the rectum, descending, transverse and ascending colon.  Endoscopy is less invasive than surgery and allows us to provide earlier diagnosis of gastrointestinal disorders.

Endoscopy is a highly effective procedure that allows us to retrieve foreign material a pet has ingested.  Close examination of the lining of the GI tract for lesions is always performed with each exam.  We then perform biopsies of the stomach, intestines or growths within these organs.  These biopsies are sent out to a board-certified pathologist for a diagnosis.

Dr. Rietdorf has a special interest in gastrointestinal disease and is proficient in endoscopy.  In addition to her previous personalized training she has recently completed an advanced continuing education endoscopy training seminar taught by Dr. Todd Tams.  Dr. Tams is a world-renowned veterinary gastroenterologist.  He is a sought-after lecturer and the author of numerous textbooks including "Small Animal Endoscopy."  Dr. Rietdorf looks forward to assisting you with the health and well-being of your pet utilizing this advanced treatment modality should the need exist.  As always, we are happy to answer any questions you may have regarding this treatment option.
